A Pennsylvania man killed his sister and her partner after she filed a Protection from Abuse (PFA) order against him. Then, the judge threw the book at him.
This week, Dauphin County Judge William T. Tully sentenced Gregory Greene to consecutive life sentences for the brutal murder of his sister, Meredith Greene, and her partner, Tyler Thames. Greene pleaded guilty but mentally ill to two counts of first-degree murder, three counts of attempted murder, burglary, and several other charges.
On Feb. 9, 2022, state narcotics agents and officers from multiple jurisdictions arrested the defendant after he crashed into a school bus during a high-speed chase. According to the Dauphin County District Attorney’s Office, during the wee hours, Greene stole a Dodge Charger outside the victim’s home in Swatara Township before proceeding to 1345 Liberty Street in the City of Harrisburg, where the PFA barred Greene.
There, the defendant illegally gained entrance while the home occupants were asleep. First, Greene went to the 2nd floor, entered the bedroom of his sister, Brittonie Meredith, and shot her in the face. Then he proceeded down the hall to Meredith Greene’s bedroom and shot her multiple times. However, the victim was able to enter her mother’s room and locked the door behind her. Though Meredith Greene saved her mother, she succumbed to her wounds.
Next, Greene went to the 3rd floor, where he accosted Thames and fatally shot him. Then, the defendant continued down the hall to his nieces’ bedroom and stabbed A.T., 6, and R.T., 8, in the neck. During the commotion, and while still suffering from a gunshot wound to the face, Brittonie Meredith was able to run out the front door and flag down narcotics officers who were serving search warrants across the street. Soon, Greene was spotted getting into the Dodge Charger before fleeing the scene.
Greene was ordered to undergo some mental evaluation, which determined the defendant was mentally ill but not insane at the time he committed the murders.
“There was a mandatory minimum sentence of life imprisonment. The Department of Corrections will take into account though, that this was a guilty but mentally ill sentence in classifying the defendant and deciding where he should serve his sentence, which penitentiary to go to and deciding the treatment should proceed when serving his life term,” said Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo, reported ABC 27.
A.T., R.T., and Brittonie Meredith survived the ordeal.
Greene was sentenced to an additional 21½ to 45 years in prison and ordered to serve the term consecutively.
