A Texas man, in a rage, shot his wife and stepson to death while moving into a new home. Now, he will remain behind bars for the rest of his life.

Recently, a Tarrant County judge handed Rickey Wayne Edwards, 54, a life term in prison without the possibility of parole for the shooting death of his wife, Portia Williams Edwards, and her son, Kameion Kitchen, 28.  Edwards, who represented himself during the trial, was found guilty and convicted of two counts of capital murder by a jury after 14 minutes of deliberation.

“I was begging for my life. I had no reason to kill my wife,” said Edwards to investigators while being adamant he fired warning shots before shooting the victims, reported The Dallas Express.

On May 3, officers responded to the 7000 block of Monet Lane, Grand Prairie, after receiving a call from the defendant about a shooting in his home. According to prosecutors, Edwards and his wife Portia had been moving into their new home when she called her father and told him her husband was acting crazy. Furthermore, the 46 year-old Portia also told her father, Edwards had hit her, pulled out a gun, and threatened her life.

In panic mode, Portia made another call to Kitchen and reported the same to him. However, her step-son drove to the home to confront the defendant, and a fight ensued. As a result, Edwards fatally shot Kitchen ten times with his Glock pistol before shooting Portia twice in the head. She died on the scene.

An hour later, the defendant called 911 and told the dispatch there had been a shooting in his home. Upon arrival, officers arrested Edwards, who later told investigators he shot both victims in self-defense.

"This case is about family violence, rage and control. When his wife and stepson lay bleeding on the floor, an hour before calling 911, he went out and moved his Lexus and put up the sun screen so his seats didn't get damaged. This was not self-defense as the defendant claims. The evidence shows beyond a reasonable doubt that he executed Kameion and Portia" said Tarrant County Assistant District Attorneys Robert Huseman, according to WFAA.
