A Louisiana Rapper, 22-year-old David Catherine, a.k.a. RealBleeda, was arrested and charged with the murder of the dean of coding for the Futures Fund division of The Walls Project, Teressa Calligan, police say.
Catherine, who is known as a member of the Bleeda street gang, was charged with first-degree murder.
On Sept. 15, in a case of mistaken identity, Calligan was at the traffic light at the intersection of Airline Highway and Greenwell Street when a car pulled next to her. Investigators alleged that the defendant shot into the vehicle, striking the victim multiple times and killing her.
"In this instance, she just wasn't the target they were looking for; she was an innocent bystander going on about her business," said Baton Rouge Police Department Spokesman Darren Ahmed, according to WBRZ.
At the time of the fatal incident, Catherine was already a known entity to the law enforcement authorities. On May 19, the defendant and another man got into an altercation with two other members of a rival gang, YNN in Pecanland Mall, Monroe. Soon, Catherine pulled out a gun and brandished it to threaten the men. That incident led to the defendant being charged with rioting, illegal carrying of weapons, and two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm.
Six days later, Catherine was arrested in Baton Rouge during a raid on his uncle’s house, where drugs, cash, and weapons were confiscated. As a result, Catherine was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice, possession of Schedule II drugs, and carrying a gun with drugs.
Earlier in March, Catherine’s presence at Park Forest Middle School sparked outrage when the defendant appeared in a TikTok video with students dancing to his "Step 2k25" song with explicit language, while the students mimed holding a gun and pointing it at the camera. After Calligan’s murder, the Louisiana Attorney General, Liz Murril, who complained about Catherine’s appearance at the school, apologized to the victim’s family, reported The Advocate.
Catherine is set for a bond hearing on July 17.
