SOUTH CAROLINA MAN ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH MURDER AFTER AN ALTERCATION OVER A STOLEN LOTTERY TICKET

A South Carolina man, 70-year-old Paul Williams, was arrested and charged with the murder of 67-year-old Matthew A. Flemming, authorities say.

Williams is charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent offense.

On April 16, around 8:00 pm, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 800 Block of Congaree Church Road after reports of a stolen lottery ticket.

Upon arrival, officers heard a single gunshot from inside the residence and saw the defendant fleeing the scene through the backyard with a gun in his hand, reported WCJB.

Williams was arrested, while Flemming, who was shot in the upper body, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The defendant is currently incarcerated at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing.

The investigation is still ongoing.
