A Georgia man and member of the Gangster Disciple street gang will spend the rest of his life behind bars after killing a man in retaliation for stealing a gun from their associate.

A Gwinnett County judge handed 34-years-old Dametris Bush, a Gangster Disciple street gang member a life term in prison without the possibility of parole for the shooting death of 29-years-old Andre Jones Jr. A jury found Bush guilty and convicted him of felony murder, malice murder, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of unlawful criminal gang activity, and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

“There is no place for violent gang activity in our communities. We are grateful to the jury for reaffirming our commitment to end gang violence in the Gwinnett Judicial District, and we hope that these verdicts and this sentence provide justice to Mr. Jones’ family and loved ones,” said Gwinnett District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson, according to a Gwinnett County media outlet.

On June 17, 2025, officers responded to the Horizon Inn and Suites, off Dawson Boulevard in Norcross,  after reports of a shooting.  Upon arrival, investigators retrieved a surveillance camera in the area that showed the defendant fatally shoot Jones twice, striking him in the chest and hitting a bystander in the leg.

According to prosecutors, Bush and two co-defendants had cased the location several hours before the fatal incident. After shooting Jones, the defendant and a co-defendant fled the scene on foot before jumping into a getaway car. Later, authorities identified the perpetrators after a license plate reader captured the getaway vehicle's license plate number.

Authorities tagged the killing as “Death for Disrespect,” after they learned the shooting was a result of the victim being accused of stealing a gun from another member of the gang. Investigators later found out the victim never stole a gun and was not gang-affiliated, but was stolen by another man at the Horizon Inn.

Jones’ mother, Gerrica Wilson, forgave Bush for the killing and extended support to the defendant contingent upon his being remorseful.

“I have to forgive him. And I do and will,” she said. “But when he’s ready to take accountability and willing to really apologize, I told him, then I will support you,” said Wilson, reported WSB-TV.

Jones was sentenced to an additional 40 years in prison.
