A Tulsa woman will spend decades behind bars for the torture, abuse, and murder of her 10-year-old son.
A Tulsa County judge handed Camille Lewis a life term in prison with the possibility of parole for the death of Orlando Hugger Jr. Lewis pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, child abuse and neglect, and desecration of a corpse.
Lewis had testified against her husband, John Miles III, who was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for Orlando’s death. During the trial, the defendant described to the jury how Miles tied Orlando and the other kids and locked them in the closet without food for months. In addition, her husband forced the children to stay in doghouses without access to the bathroom.
“With this guilty plea, Camille Lewis is taking responsibility for her role in the horrific abuse and neglect her children suffered, not only at the hands of John Miles but hers as well. Her testimony at John Miles’ trial helped the jury understand the full scope of what the victims endured, especially what happened to Orlando. We’re grateful for the sake of the families that this case is resolved. We hope they can now heal and move forward with their lives,” said Tulsa County Assistant District Attorney Amy Dickens, according to FOX 23.
On March 18, 2021, Lewis testified that Miles had been beating Orlando and throwing him around like a ragdoll before the child became unconscious and suffered a seizure. Though Orlando regained consciousness later, Miles then locked him up in a closet before the couple discovered Orlando was dead an hour later.
According to prosecutors, the couple hid the child’s body for two days in the garage before burying the body in a North Tulsa field. A couple of days later, the defendant and her husband dug Orlando’s body up and burnt it in a metal trashcan before disposing of the ashes in a storm drain.
Lewis initially told investigators Orlando had run away from home but later claimed she lied and participated out of fear because Miles had abused and assaulted her. The couple were arrested in 2023, reported News Channel.
The judge sentenced Lewis to an additional 25 years for the second-degree murder and 7 years for the desecration of a corpse. Lewis was ordered to serve all the sentences concurrently. She will be eligible for release after 35 years in prison and remain on probation for life.
