Ex-wife, Patricia Wiggington, 49, of Fred Wigginton, who allegedly murdered his wife, Elsie Mae Wiggington, 45, was arrested and charged with accomplice accessory after the fact of felony homicide and obstruction of justice, authorities say.

In June 2023, Elsie was reported missing after she was last seen by neighbors who suspected foul play regarding her disappearance by her 37-year-old husband, Fred Wiggington. Two weeks later, the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office descended on the property the couple shared on 673 Pendleton Drive. Using Cadabra dogs, they found the victim’s remains under a concrete slab on the premises and immediately arrested Fred Wiggington.

According to Law and Crime, Elsie who divorced Fred Wiggington in 2019 after a 14-month marriage, had sent a text to her foster sister and alerted her of death threats from her husband. Fred Wiggington, who had moved back with Patricia Wiggington, admitted to the robbery of Elsie’s home after forging her signature on the title, moved her jewelry and other properties to his ex-wife’s home.

Fred Wiggington was charged with first-degree murder and concealment of a dead body. The act of domestic violence was ruled as the cause of Elsie’s death.

During the investigation, authorities discovered some discrepancies, sought arrest warrants for Patricia Wiggington, and charged her as an accomplice.

“What we learned is domestic violence can go beyond the partners. You know, the partners can have accomplices,” said Elsie’s foster sister, Tracey Coleman, reported WBDJ7.

Patricia Wiggington is awaiting trial and held without bond at the Amherst County Adult Detention Center.
