NEVADA WOMAN SENTENCED TO LIFE AFTER SHOOTING HER SISTER’S BOYFRIEND TO DEATH ON VALENTINE’S DAY

A Nevada woman who killed her sister’s boyfriend on Valentine’s Day will spend at least two decades behind bars.

A Washoe County judge handed Katrina Carvalho, 24, a life term with the possibility of parole for the shooting death of 25- 25-year-old Vintell Johnson. Carvalho was found guilty and convicted of first-degree murder with the use of a firearm.

On Feb. 14, 2021, officers responded to an apartment complex on El Rancho Drive after reports of a shooting, reported KOLO News Now. Upon arrival, they found Johnson with several gunshot wounds before he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Witnesses told investigators the victim and girlfriend had been involved in a heated argument. During the altercation, Carvalho pulled out a gun and shot Johnson three times in the back before she fled the scene. Nine months later, authorities arrested the defendant in Los Angeles.

During the trial, prosecutors submitted to the jury recorded phone calls of Carvalho implicating herself in murder while she was incarcerated at the County jail.

Carvalho will be eligible for parole after serving 20 years in prison.
