A Columbus couple has been arrested and charged with the murder of their 8-month-old infant, authorities say.

Kiara Davis, 27, and Miguel Badillo, 24, were arrested and charged on Wednesday with 2nd-degree murder, 2nd-degree child cruelty, and possession of drug-related objects.

On Sept. 27, officers from the Columbus Police Department Special Victims Unit responded to the 4300 block of Rosemont Drive after reports of a deceased infant. Upon arrival, investigators discovered the infant had been falling off the mattress and wedged in between the mattress and the cushions of the love seat in the residence. The fatal incident was reported to have taken place because there were no safety measures in place.

Both defendants are currently held at the Muscogee County Jail while awaiting trial.
