A Florida man who stabbed another inmate to death will now spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Circuit Court Judge Coleman Robinson sentenced Alex Vega to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the stabbing death of an inmate at the Century Correctional Institution. An Escambia County jury convicted Vega of second-degree murder.
According to prosecutors, on Sept.15, 2021, the defendant stabbed another inmate to death with a contraband handmade weapon, also known as a shank. At the time of the incident, 29-year-old Vega was serving a 15-year sentence for an unrelated charge, as reported by FOX 10 News.
The motive for the killing remains unclear.
