A Missouri man killed his ex-wife in a jealous rage and claimed it was self-defense. Now, he will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Last week, a St. Louis County judge sentenced Christopher Turner, 28, to life without the possibility of parole for the shooting death of Charlisa Turner. Turner was convicted by a jury of first-degree murder and armed criminal action.

On July 31, 2021, Charlisa went to her parent’s home along the 2100 block of Old Manor Road near Dellwood to pick up the three children she shared with the defendant. According to FOX 2 now, while the children were inside the home, the defendant shot his wife twice before walking calmly to his car. Then, Turner returned to where the 27-year-old Charlisa was lying and shot her eight more times before fleeing the scene.

Later, investigators retrieved a home surveillance camera that captured the fatal incident, which played a vital role for the jury during the trial. Later, Turner took the stand in his own defense and testified he shot Charlisa in self-defense. Furthermore, the defendant claimed the video footage had been altered.

The jury didn’t buy it!

However, the victim’s stepmother, Aimee Ward, who was also a registered nurse, testified she had been at home during the shooting and tried to perform CPR on Charlisa before the arrival of an emergency response team on the scene.

“She was the light of our life. She was happy. She was smart. She wanted a family life like she grew up in,” said Ward, reported St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Turner had been married to Charlisa for six years before the couple got divorced in 2019. Their three children were between the ages of 2 and 6.  He was sentenced to an additional three years for the armed criminal action conviction.
