A Georgia woman will spend decades behind bars after she killed her mom and uncle while on parole.

A Chatham Superior Court judge sentenced 35-year-old Holly Marie Scott to life in prison with the possibility of parole for the shooting death of her mother, 62-year-old Shirley Doulin, and her uncle, 61-year-old James Doulin. To avoid being sentenced to two consecutive life sentences, Scott pleaded guilty to two counts of felony murder.

On July 31, 2024, around midnight, the Bloomingdale Police Department responded to the home shared by Shirley and her brother James at 45 Morgan Road, Lot 3, after reports of a stabbing. Upon their arrival, they found both victims with stab wounds. However, Shirley was declared dead at the scene, while James succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital, according to WJCL.

Scott was arrested at a gas station off Little Neck Road after the defendant called 911 to turn herself in. Scott was a known entity to authorities since she was on parole after serving time in prison for a 2022 case involving terroristic threats and obstruction of law enforcement. The defendant was recently released two months prior to the fatal incident.

Family members told authorities that Scott had a lengthy drug history, while the court considered the defendant’s mental competency.

“Shirley was a hard worker and always made anything she had work for her. She was always known for her soft and quiet voice. She never complained and was always positive about any situation. She always found a solution and would say “you need to look for options, there’s always options”. She was the sweetest person and was always polite and never would let you forget she was thankful for anything you did for her. She loved to cook, wear comfy pajamas, and listen to all genres of music. She was a lover of all types of animals. She was the best mom anyone could ask for. She will never be forgotten and will always be missed," stated Shirley’s family members in her obituary, reported WTOC.

The motive for the killing remains unclear.
