A Wisconsin woman killed her boyfriend while having sex before decapitating and dismembering him. Now, she will never walk free again.

Brown County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Walsh handed Taylor Schabusiness, 25, a life term in prison without the possibility of parole for the strangulation murder of Shad Thyrion. After 50 minutes deliberation, Schabusiness was found guilty and convicted by a jury of first-degree intentional homicide, third-degree sexual assault, and mutilating a corpse.

"The offense in this case can't be overstated. In this case, you seem to run out of superlatives in describing what happened. ... This crime offends human decency, it offends human dignity, it offends the human community. It really does," said Walsh during the sentencing hearing, according to Green Bay Press Gazette.

On Feb. 23, 2022, officers responded to a house on Stony Brook Lane in Green Bay after the victim’s mother found her son’s head in a bucket in her basement. According to prosecutors, Schabusiness and 24-year-old Thyrion had been smoking methamphetamine prior to the incident. Then, the duo had sex on the mattress in his mother’s basement before she strangled him to death, decapitated and dismembered him. Next, Schabusiness scattered his remains around the house and in a vehicle. Soon, the defendant was arrested and placed in custody.

Before the trial, authorities ordered Schabusiness to a series of mental evaluations. Though she was later declared competent to stand trial, she pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Schabusiness’ defense team argued the defendant had a history of substance abuse, and her mental issues were exasperated due to the loss of her mother. They argued Schabusiness was a loving parent to her 2-year-old daughter. In addition, several character witnesses testified on Schabusiness’ positive qualities in the hope she would be granted parole, including her father who arrived in court shackled in an orange jumpsuit due to an unrelated criminal case.

On the other hand, prosecutors argued Schabusiness had several opportunities to address her drug use but refused after her arrest in 2020 for driving 80 mph within city limits and cutting off her monitoring bracelets. Furthermore, the defendant told detectives the reason she killed Thyrion was because she liked it, reported WSFA.

The judge agreed and sentenced Schabusiness to an additional 18 years for dismembering and sexually assaulting Thyrion. She was ordered served both sentences consecutively.
