AFTER A HEATED ARGUMENT WITH HER BOYFRIEND, SHE BLUDGEONED HIM TO DEATH WITH A HAMMER.

A California woman beat her boyfriend to death after a heated argument. Now, she heads to prison for the rest of her life.

Recently, a Tulare County Superior Court judge handed Rosa Baca, 55, a life term in prison without the possibility of parole for the beating death of her boyfriend, Jose Magana. Baca was found guilty and convicted of first-degree murder with the special circumstance of inflicting torture and a special allegation she used a deadly weapon.

On Dec. 17, 2018, Porterville Police Department responded to a residence in the 200 block of South Indiana Street after receiving a 911 regarding an unresponsive male. Upon arrival, the defendant told investigators unknown assailants had assaulted the victim. When pressed for more information, Baca told investigators she had been in a heated argument with Magana the previous night, resulting in him leaving the home. Then, Baca claimed not to see the victim till the next morning after showing up with injuries, without his shoes and shirt.

According to The Poterville Recorder, authorities doubted her story because of several inconsistencies. At the scene, they noticed Magana’s feet were clean despite allegedly walking home with no shoes on and no signs of a struggle or blood on the 38-year-old victim. In addition, Baca claimed she had not left home since the previous night, but investigators discovered her car was warm and driven recently with mud tracks from the vehicle.

As a result of the insurmountable evidence contrary to her story, she finally admitted to kicking and beating Magana with a hammer. Though the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital and placed on life support, he died the next day.

"At least you are still alive. But he is not. You don't know the pain and sorrow that you cause. That you caused by losing one of the loved ones to our family," said Magana’s relative, Maria Cabral, during the victim’s impact statement, reported ABC 30 Action News.

Baca apologized but continued to maintain her innocence and plans to appeal her conviction.
