A Florida man, Hector Munoz-Ochoa, was arrested and charged with the stabbing death of his mother, 55-year-old Lilian Ochoa-Menjivar, authorities say.

On Saturday, around 3 pm, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) responded to a residence on Peach Drive to help the Jacksonville Fire Department on a medical call. Upon arrival, they found Ochoa-Menjivar with multiple stab wounds. Despite life-saving measures, the victim died at the scene. Hence, the 24-year-old defendant was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Munoz-Ochoa was a known entity to the Florida law enforcement authorities. In November 2020, officers had responded to the family home where Ochoa-Menjivar told officers her son had threatened to kill her with a knife while under the influence. At the time, the defendant was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. Later, the charges were dropped.

A year later, Munoz-Ochoa cut a man’s lip with a knife during a domestic dispute. Again, he was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, but declared incompetent to stand trial due to mental illness.

"Our work isn’t done; we’ll work alongside our partners at the State Attorney’s Office to make sure Munoz-Ochoa is held accountable for his actions," stated JSO officers, according to News 4 JAX.
