An Alabama woman will spend decades behind bars after she shot her sister’s roommate over an argument on social media.

A Madison County judge handed Shaniqua Brown a life term with the possibility of parole for the shooting death of 20-year-old Jasmine Moore. Brown was found guilty of murder after the jury deliberated for over an hour during a two-day trial.

On July 26, 2019, an argument started on social media between the defendant and Moore. Later, Brown went to the apartment on Hood Road, shared by her sister Charmane Brown and the victim, to confront Moore. As a result, a fight ensued between the two women and was broken up by Charmane Brown’s boyfriend and Moore’s boyfriend. Then, the defendant came back into the apartment and fatally shot Moore.

During the trial, Brown’s lawyer Chad Morgan asked the court to dismiss the evidence against the defendant since the lead investigator at the time, former Huntsville police officer Julian Johnson, had a sexual relationship with Brown that continued after the fatal incident.

“This far in the investigation, we can say this was ignited over a social media argument. That’s something we have seen in other homicides and in this case that’s exactly what happened,” said Johnson, reported WHNT.

The judge disagreed!

Despite Charmane Moore’s resistance, the state compelled her to testify to the events that led up to the shooting. Prosecutors established that Brown had the clear intention to kill Moore when she went back into the apartment with a gun.

Brown apologized to Moore’s family during the sentencing hearing.

“I was happy. I was ecstatic. I felt like justice was served. Because of what she did, you can’t come back from that. You can’t bring her back. Even though the life sentence won’t bring her back, I feel like at least they acknowledged what she did was wrong and they gave her a fair and adequate punishment,” said Moore’s cousin, Arain Brown, reported WAFF.
