A North Carolina man and former Major League Baseball (MLB) draft pick, 40-year-old Brian Grant, who was a pick, was arrested and charged with murder, police say.
Grant was charged with second-degree murder after the Oak Island Police Department responded to the defendant’s home after reports of a gunshot. Upon arrival, they found the body of 61-year-old Randy Stewart at the house with a gunshot wound.
According to TMZ, the former pitcher was arrested without incident at the scene, while authorities discovered Stewart, who was a locksmith, had been at the residence to service Grant’s home.
However, the motive for the shooting remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.
Grant is currently being held without bond while awaiting trial.
The former pitcher was a seventh-round pick for the Toronto Blue Jays. Despite an unsuccessful career in the MLB, he played for the Medicine Hat Blue Jays, the Pulaski Blue Jays, and the Auburn Doubledays.
