A Wilson man, 25-year-old Da’ron Jenkins, who just got released from prison, killed his mother, 50-year-old Dana Vanessa Jenkins, and 15-year-old son, Daryn Cox, police say. Jenkins was charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
According to WITN, Jenkins was just released a week from prison after serving over three years for an unrelated charge of breaking and entering, larceny of firearms, and malicious conduct by a prisoner.
Around 5:30 pm on March 31, officers responded to the home on Snowden Drive after reports of a call described by authorities as an unknown call. Upon their arrival, they found the bodies of the victims with multiple stab wounds at the home.
A few hours later, the defendant was arrested and held without bond at the Wilson County jail.
Family members and friends described Dana Jenkins as a wonderful mother who took care of her family. On the day Jenkins was released from prison, his mother expressed her joy on social media and stated, “MY BABY IS HOME!! LORD I THX U!!,” reported WBTV.
Daryn Cox was also a student at Beddingfield High School.
