A Fairfield Township man will never walk free again after he set his father’s fiancée on fire.

Butler County Common Pleas Judge Keith Spaeth handed Robbi Robinson, 25, a life term in prison without the possibility of parole for the killing of 50-year-old Brenda Scott. Though the jury had the option of recommending the death penalty for Robinson, after two hours of deliberation, they opted for life without parole after Robinson was found guilty of capital murder., according to Journal-News.

In May 2023, according to prosecutors, the defendant’s father, Robbi Robinson Sr., who was a nurse, had gone to work that morning; Robinson put on a heavy puffer coat despite the 70-degree heat outside while carrying accelerant fluid underneath. Then, the defendant burst into his father’s bedroom and assaulted Scott by knocking her teeth out. Then, Robinson soaked her in acetone and a lighter fluid before setting her on fire.

As a result, Scott, in a desperate move, jumped out the window from the three stories of the home. The victim suffered 60 percent burn to her body.

Robinson claimed he had a sexual relationship with Scott and later testified during the sentencing hearing that he was not a bad person but just made a bad decision.

“I am sorry that Brenda is dead. I am sorry that I am responsible for her death. I made a bad decision, but I am not a bad person. I am not the worst of the worst. I was not happy. I was not happy with a lot of things. I was not happy with my family. I was not happy with my living situation, and I was not happy. I was not happy that Brenda was having a sexual relationship with me, and I was really not happy, and I reacted, and I was instantly regretful,” said Robinson, reported WLWT5

Robinson’s mother, Renee Robinson, appealed to the court to give her son a life sentence with the possibility of parole. Renee Robinson told the court her son suffered from mental issues, and unbeknownst to her, she did not know the level of impact her divorce from the defendant’s father had on him.

The jury disagreed!
