A Canton woman, 18-year-old Money L. Baccus, was arrested and charged with the murder of 30-year-old Shawn Hawkins, police say.
Baccus is charged with murder, felonious assault, and domestic violence.
Around midnight on Wednesday, the Canton Police Department responded to the 1900 block of 2nd Street SW after receiving a call about a shooting, according to News 5 Cleveland. Upon arrival, they found Hawkins bleeding from a gunshot wound to the chest before administering first aid to the victim while waiting for the arrival of the Canton Fire Department.
Hawkins was rushed to Aultman Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Later in the evening, members of the Canton Police Special Investigations Unit and the U.S. Marshals Task Force arrested Baccus in Akron after she was identified as a suspect who resided at the same address as the victim.
Investigation into the shooting is still ongoing, and the motive for the killing remains unknown.
