A California man and Inglewood gang member who killed three people and injured two others will never walk free again.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Scott T. Millington handed Selvin Salazar, 32, three life sentences without the possibility of parole for the shooting death of Dolores Sanchez, 28, Saith Pedraza, 39, and his best friend, 28-year-old Francisco Montes. Salazar was found guilty and convicted by a jury of three counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder, one count of intimidation of a witness, one count of carjacking, and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.

“Our hearts go out to the victims and their families, who have endured tremendous loss and suffering as a result of Mr. Salazar’s horrific actions. I wish to extend my thanks to Deputy District Attorney Kendra Carman, who vigorously prosecuted this case and steadfastly sought justice. We hope this sentence brings a measure of closure to the victims and their loved ones,” said Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office.

On July 31, 2018, the Los Angeles Police Department responded to the 1200 Block of 135th Street in Gardena after reports of a shooting. According to prosecutors, the defendant, who had been high on crystal methamphetamine, thought Ortiz had set him up for an attack by a rival gang. As a result, Salazar shot at a vehicle, killing fatally Sanchez, who was the driver, and injuring Pedraza and his sister, Olga.

Next, Salazar ordered Montes, who was a fellow gang member, and his pregnant wife, Ana Ortiz, to drive him to a friend's house in Lynwood. On the way, the defendant asked Montes to pull over and fatally shot him in the back of the head before shooting Ortiz in the neck. Though Pedraza was initially paralyzed, he died two years later, while Olga and Ortiz survived the ordeal.

Authorities believe the defendant killed his best friend because he thought Montes was driving him to a police station.

During the sentencing hearing, Salazar repeatedly tried to interrupt the judge while claiming Montes was not his best friend.

“You’re a cold-blooded killer. This court believes you should never, never, never get out,” said Millington, reported Daily Breeze.
