A Fargo man was arrested and charged for the murder of an acquaintance during a heated argument, authorities say.
On Saturday, around 1:15 am, officers responded to the parking lot of an apartment complex along 1341 8th Avenue North after reports of an active shooter in the neighborhood. Upon arrival, they found 25-year-old Jalab Moses on the floor, bleeding from gunshot wounds to the chest. First responders attempted to stabilize the victim, but Moses died on the scene.
Tyreik Taylor-Roberts was identified as the shooter after he admitted to shooting Moses in self-defense. He claimed he and the victim had been in a heated argument in the parking lot when Moses tried to take his gun from him. In addition, Taylor-Roberts told investigators that the victim appeared to be reaching for a weapon after he had threatened to stab him.
However, according to Valley News Live, a witness told authorities they saw Taylor-Roberts shoot Moses first during the argument and then shoot the victim a second time after he had fallen to the floor. In addition, the witness informed the authorities there was an unidentified third party who was present during the altercation before he fled the scene in a vehicle.
During the initial interview with Taylor-Roberts, the defendant told investigators he did not see any weapon, and neither did investigators find one at the scene. However, authorities recovered the gun used by Taylor-Roberts at the scene.
Later, authorities zeroed in on the defendant’s apartment after issuing a search warrant. They found suspected fentanyl pills and a smoking device. Taylor-Roberts is expected to face a drug charge, reported KFGO.
