January 30, 2020, was like any other day for Teon Wiley. The Tennessee native was supposed to go to the convenience store on Overton Crossing Street, about 800 feet from his home, to purchase some items but never returned home. Instead, he was shot to death, and authorities still don’t have a clue who the killer is to date.

According to witnesses, Wiley had been standing in front of the convenience store when an individual approached him and asked for $1. The victim refused and proceeded inside the store. Upon his exit, the assailant followed Wiley to the store’s parking lot, where the victim was shot at close range multiple times before he fled the scene, reported Project: Cold Case.

An acquaintance who often rode the bus with Wiley found him and waited for the police and first responders to arrive. Wiley was rushed to the hospital, but he succumbed to his wounds.

Later, authorities found a witness who described a person of interest as a man wearing a red sweatshirt and ripped denim jeans. The information was released to the public with an opportunity to receive a reward, but authorities hit a dead end, and the case went cold.

Investigators claim the shooting stemmed from a robbery gone wrong, but family members believe it was an execution.

The victim’s friends and family described him as a kind person who loved dogs.

If anyone has any information that would identify Wiley’s killer, please get in touch with the Memphis Police Department at 901-636-3300 or call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
