The Christmas season will always be hedged into the Steele family’s memory, not for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, but for the loss of their beloved daughter, 29-year-old Shannon Sharell Steele.

It’s been eight years since the Demopolis Police Department arrived at a home on Queensbury Lane, in Edgemont Village, Alabama, around 3 pm to serve papers on someone at that residence. Upon arrival, they met Steele’s 4-year-old son, who led them to his mother’s body in the bedroom. Authorities discovered she had been shot. Though first responders were called, the victim was declared dead at the scene.

Steele’s 4-month-old daughter was also found in the room next to her mother, while two other daughters were not at home during the fatal incident.

"It's very sad,'' said Demopolis Police Chief Tommie Reese, reported AL.com.

Soon, investigators canvassed the neighborhood and collected evidence from the scene. However, they exhausted all leads, and the case went cold.

According to Project: Cold Case, the homicide sent shock waves to family members who last saw Steele fret over the missing gift for her mother on Christmas day. Furthermore, Steel’s aunt Valada, who worked as a 911 dispatcher on that fateful day, was devastated as the news came in.

The victim was described as a loving mom who raised her children with values.

Over the years, authorities have raised a $20,000 cash reward to encourage witnesses to come forward.

Anyone with information that would blow the case wide open should call the Demopolis Police Department at (334) 289-3073 or the DPD Tip Line at (334) 216-4077.
