A Mississippi woman who attempted to kill her ex-boyfriend’s lover by hiring a hitman will now spend almost three decades in prison.

Forrest County Circuit Court Judge Bob Helfrich handed Shameka Hall a 40-year sentence for the murder-for-hire plot to kill her ex-boyfriend’s lover Ariunna Myers. Hall was found guilty and convicted of attempted murder.

“The evidence clearly showed Ms. Hall orchestrated this murder-for-hire plot. She is going to have plenty of time behind bars to think about the poor decision she made. I am glad we were able to achieve justice for the victim in this case,” said 12th Circuit Court District Attorney Lin Carter, according to WDAM 7.

In November 2022, U.S. Probation and Parole officers informed the Hattiesburg Police Department that the defendant was in the process of hiring a hitman to assassinate Myers. Soon, authorities discovered several phone calls and text messages between Hall and the hitman within a span of three months before authorities found out about the plot.

Later, investigators discovered video footage that showed the defendant negotiating the hitman’s payment and making plans to be personally involved in the execution. In addition, they found fake social media accounts belonging to the defendant to track Myers’ movement, reported WHLT 12 News.

Before Hall could complete the plan, the defendant was arrested and placed in custody.  Authorities believe the motive for the plot was because of jealousy.

Helfrich ordered Hall to serve 25 years of the sentence with 15 years suspended while on supervised release.
