A California man killed a member of a rival gang in cold blood. Now, he would remain behind bars for life.

Riverside County Judge Matthew Perantoni sentenced 25 years old  Alyais Lavante Jahneal Harper to 130 years to life in prison for the shooting death of Rejean Malik Williams Cullors, 22. Harper was found guilty and convicted by a jury of one count of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder.

On Oct. 15, 2018, the defendant and two other accomplices met Cullors and three of his friends along Fifth Street and Beaumont Avenue. According to Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, after an exchange of words between the men, Harper pulled out a handgun and fatally shot the victim three times. Then, the defendant turned his attention to Cullors’ friends and started shooting at them. They immediately took cover at a nearby restaurant and were not injured.

Cullors was rushed to the hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.

Two days after the incident, Harper was arrested and taken into custody by Riverside County Gang Impact Team (GIT) in Carlsbad.

Authorities believe the motive for the killing was due to the history of bad blood between the two groups.

Harper was also found guilty of  special circumstances of being a gang member to be true, as well as firearms and gang activity enhancements.
