AI TO SOLVE THREE DECADES-OLD COLD CASE OF MISSING 11-YEAR-OLD

It has been 32 years since Mark Himebaugh went missing from his family home in New Jersey. Though authorities had exhausted all leads, they are now determined to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to solve the disappearance.

The picturesque county of Cape May, a sleepy town where families throng during the summer holidays, got a jolt on Nov. 25, 1991. According to family members, Himebaugh was last seen leaving his home on Sunray Road in the Del Haven neighborhood around 4 p.m.

It was just like any other day when the victim left his home to watch a brush fire nearby and never returned home. At the time, the fire department had set up a detour for motorists while they battled the flames. As a result, heavy traffic ensued in the neighborhood, leading authorities to believe that was the period Himebaugh was abducted.

On May 25, Middle Township Police Department and Cape May prosecutors commissioned Tabtu Corp and its service provider, Terawe, to utilize their AI platform to burst the case wide open.

"I want to thank the Vollee team and Microsoft for partnering with us on this important project. It is important that we use every available resource and the latest technology to help us find Mark. My hope is this pilot program will help us solve Mark's case and be used as a model to help with other cold cases," said Middle Township Police Chief Christopher Leusner, according to CBS News

Different eyewitness accounts indicated Himebaugh might have been seen with two unidentified adults in their 30s on that day.  Another account may have seen the victim with an unidentified nine or ten-year-old girl with blonde hair the same evening.

The victim’s mother, Maureen Himebaugh, and family members are hopeful this new development will provide the long-awaited closure in the near future.
