Three Ohio teens, 17-year-old Tynarius McFarland, 16-year-old Chase Davis, and 17-year-old James Ramsey, were arrested on Tuesday and charged with the murder of 18-year-old Joaquin Simmons during a botched robbery, police say.
On March 29, around 4:00 pm, the Toledo Police Department responded to the 500 Block of East Oakland Street after reports of a robbery. Upon arrival, they found Simmons in the roadway with severe brain injuries, reported Action News. Despite the efforts of first responders and the victim being rushed to the hospital, Simmons succumbed to his injuries four days later.
According to investigators, the victim had scheduled a meeting with the defendants via Facebook marketplace to sell a pair of Balenciaga shoes. Then, during an argument over the price of the shoe, one of the defendants snatched the shoe from Simmons and jumped in the car before the teens sped off.
However, the victim held on to the passenger door while the car was at high speed, while one of the defendants started hitting Simmons in the head with a gun before pushing him off the vehicle.
Simmons was a student at Woodward High School at the time of his demise.
The investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call or text the Crime Stopper program at 419-255-1111. Eligibility for a reward is still available for anyone who opts to remain anonymous.
