It’s been six years since the Roberts family got the heartbreaking news that 39-year-old Trenesa Roberts was murdered, and the perpetrator is still at large.
On Dec. 10, 2018, around 4 am, Roberts, who worked for the Lee County School District as a bus attendant, was on her way to work when she was gunned down. Two hours later, Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 2000 block of Quentin Avenue South, in Lehigh Acres, Florida, where they found the victim’s body in her driveway.
Upon investigation of the crime scene, investigators determined the murder was intentional since nothing on her body was missing, there was no sign of entry by anyone into the home, and her car was not touched or stolen.
“It wasn’t random, it was someone she knew. You didn’t take her purse, you didn’t steal her car. You just gunned her down. Probably stood over her to make sure the job was done, then you walked away,” said the victim’s elder sister Sharlonda Wilson, according to Gulf Coast.
Roberts had just bought the house in Lehigh Acres, Florida, a few weeks before her demise.
Despite several manhours, canvassing the neighborhood, and following up on leads, authorities hit a wall. As a result, the investigation went cold.
“We know that people have talked amongst themselves about this case, but we’ve yet to receive the anonymous tip that can move it closer to an arrest,” said Crime Stoppers Manager Trish Routte, reported Lehigh Acres Citizen.
Recently, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office has dedicated two retired deputy chiefs, an FBI special agent, and a couple of other homicide detectives to solve the cold case murder. In addition, Williams, who is now working with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in the property and evidence unit has made it her calling to help others and find her sister’s killer.
Family members described Roberts as a private person who was focused on her professional career and family life. She is survived by four daughters, ages 21, 22, 25, and 27.
