A Houston man, Johnny Wilson, who reportedly killed his ex-wife and was on the run for 6 years, was arrested and charged with murder, police say.
On Dec. 2, authorities arrested the defendant in Grand Prairie, Texas, by members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force and the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force. The charges stemmed from Nov. 12, 2018, when 29-year-old Charine Wilson’s family reported her missing.
According to the Houston Police Department (HPD), Charine's son, who had been with his mother on the day she went missing, told authorities that they drove to the apartment complex along Glencrest Avenue, near Broadway Street, where Charine’s ex-husband is a resident.
Though the victim’s son stayed in the car while Charine entered the residence, the victim never came back to the car. Later, Wilson exited the apartment alone and drove the boy to a fast-food restaurant in his mother’s car before dropping him off.
Three months after Wilson’s disappearance, HPD responded to a ditch south of Corsicana, in Navarro County, where the victim’s body was found. In addition, an autopsy report showed the victim had been shot multiple times. As a result, Johnny Wilson, then 42, was arrested and charged with Wilson’s murder but posted bail and became a fugitive.
Wilson is currently in custody of the Grand Prairie Police Department Jail and is awaiting extradition to Houston while awaiting trial.
