An Elmira teen who shot J’Sean Williams, 21, to death at his birthday party in Southport was arrested, authorities say.
Michael W. Williams Jr. was charged with second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon after the defendant was identified as the shooter. Both the victim and the defendant are not related.
Around midnight on Nov. 15, Chemung County Police Department responded to a home on Richard Street in Southport where the victim was celebrating his birthday party after reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found J’Sean with multiple gunshot wounds, and he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, reported WENY.
The motive for the killing remains unclear.
A week after the fatal incident, authorities, with eyewitness testimonies and several evidence collected at the scene of the crime, tracked the 17-year-old teenager to a residence in Binghamton, where he was arrested without incident.
Prosecutors in New York have the option to charge Williams as an adult.
