A Dallas man responsible for a double homicide was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Benjamin Paul Teal, 32, was found guilty and convicted by a jury of capital murder for the shooting death of 29-year-old Breanna Christine Dunn and 43-year-old Ronald Lee Calvert Jr.
At about 10 p.m., on March 23, 2023, the Denton County Police Department responded to the parking lot of Ridgecrest Apartments in the 1300 block of Dallas Drive, where they found the bodies of both victims in a car with gunshot wounds to the head, reported Denton Record-Chronicle.
At the crime scene, authorities found a phone left behind in the car that belonged to 30-year-old Silvester Williams, an accomplice of Teal. Phone records indicated Williams had sent a text to Calvert to meet at the complex at 9:15 pm, and the security surveillance camera captured both defendants getting out of the victim’s car.
Later, Mesquite Police Department received a 911 call from Williams, who claimed Teal had shot him in the face and stolen his girlfriend’s car. Then, authorities compared the casings from the double homicide with the casings at the Mesquite shooting. The ballistic report was a match, and Williams was arrested.
During the investigation, authorities established that Teal was the second suspect in the shooting. Hence, the defendant was arrested days later in Wichita Falls.
“We would like to recognize our Major Crimes, Special Operations, Forensic Services, and Evidence Management Units, as well as the Denton County District Attorney’s Office, for the extensive work that led to Teal’s conviction,” stated the Denton Police Department, according to The Cross Timbers Gazette.
Williams’ trial is scheduled for next year.
