A Kansas man who killed a Topeka woman will spend over two decades behind bars.
A Shawnee County judge sentenced Jordan Robert Reynolds-Taylor, 28, to life in prison with the possibility of parole for the stabbing death of 59-year-old Tammie Hanson. Robert-Reynolds pleaded guilty to first-degree murder during the commission of a felony.
On Jan. 1, 2024, the Shawnee County Police Department responded to Tyler Towers' high-rise apartments along the 600 SW Block of 14th Street for a welfare check. Upon arrival, they found Hanson’s body on the floor and discovered the victim had suffered a knife attack and had been dead for days.
According to Yahoo News, authorities retrieved surveillance cameras, which identified Reynolds-Taylor, who was seen entering the apartment, leaving, and returning a second time with a mask and blue gloves. Also, neighbors described the defendant as a suspect. As a result, authorities issued a search warrant for Reynolds-Taylor’s home, where they found a bloodied sweatshirt similar to the one the defendant was seen wearing on the security video footage. In addition, Reynolds-Taylor had a cut and a scab wound on his hand.
At the time of the defendant’s arrest, he was already in police custody for an unrelated charge.
The defendant told investigators he enjoyed visiting old people living in the area and had visited Hanson frequently.
The motive for the killing remains unclear.
Reynolds-Taylor will be eligible for parole after serving 25 years at the Kansas Department of Corrections, reported MSN.
