Andreu Batten’s family remembered him as a bright individual who was very adventurous and willing to learn new languages and cultures. However, it’s been 12 years since his death, and authorities still have no clue who’s responsible for the homicide.
On June 12, 2012, Batten and his father went to a hunting camp for a weekend in South Carolina to help clean the area for the upcoming hunting season. Batten was an IT expert who had previously worked at AOL and Citi Bank but was also outdoorsy.
After the duo arrived at the camp on Friday evening, Batten’s father slept early for the next day’s preparation. The victim, who was bored, decided to take a walk around the campground since it was empty. The next day, Batten’s father noticed his son had not returned to their cabin, then, in a panic, called the authorities to declare him missing.
According to an Apple Podcast, the next day, the South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the road where a driver found Batten’s body. Upon arrival, they discovered Batten suffered a head trauma, but authorities could not find any evidence of a hit and run. During the investigation, there were no leads; hence, the case went cold to date. On the other hand, the victim’s parent believes someone out there has information about the death of their son.
“Someone must know something somewhere, because something this tragic — it just couldn’t be done by one person, I don’t think,” said Batten’s father, according to Project: Cold Case.
Batten’s family continues to seek justice and hopes the authorities will make an arrest someday.
If anyone has any information that would identify Batten’s killer, please get in touch with the South Carolina Highway Patrol at 803-896-9621 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-Crime-SC.
