An Elbert County Superior Court judge sentenced Andrew Nicholas Berry, 35, to life in prison with the possibility of parole for the stabbing death of Destiny Autumn Huff, 21. During the early hours of New Year’s Day in 2023, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Bowman Highway after receiving a 911 distress call. Upon arrival, they found Huff unresponsive with multiple stab wounds. As a result, she bled to death despite the efforts of first responders to save her life. Soon, a Be-On-The-Lookout (BOLO) was issued for the defendant, who was arrested six hours later.

According to 921WLHR, the fatal incident stemmed from a domestic dispute between the couple before Berry stabbed the victim in the neck and several more times in front of their two and four-year-old children. In addition, a witness testified seeing the defendant standing over Huff’s body before he fled the scene.

Initially, the defendant claimed the victim had attacked him with a knife, but later recanted before accepting a plea and avoiding going to trial.

Berry was sentenced to an additional 20 years for the cruelty charges to children and will be eligible for parole after serving 30 years.
