A Michigan woman who shot a pregnant student to death in a jealous rage will spend the rest of her life behind bars.

Last week, Wayne County Judge Sharon Walker sentenced Gabrielle Brantley, 28, to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the shooting death of Kabria Arnold, 20, and her unborn child. Brantley was found guilty and convicted of first-degree premeditated murder, assault on a pregnant woman (intentionally causing a miscarriage), and two counts of felony firearm.

Around midnight on Nov. 10, 2019, Detroit police officers responded to Pilgrim and Bentler streets, where they found Arnold’s body with multiple gunshots. According to prosecutors, the victim had just finished her shift at the Meijer store and was less than two miles from her family home when she was gunned down. Later, investigators discovered the 20-year-old softball star at the University of Michigan had been involved in a love triangle with her boyfriend and his ex-girlfriend Brantley.

After further investigation and witness statements, authorities soon established the defendant as the shooter.  She was arrested eight days after the fatal incident and arraigned at the 36th District Court.

During the trial, Brentley took the stand to maintain her innocence and claimed she did not kill Arnold because they were friends.

"Kabria and I – we hung out a lot. We went bowling, skating, to the movies, out to eat. I am a lot of things, but a murderer I am not," said Brantley during her testimony, reported FOX 2 Detroit.

The jury didn’t buy it!

On the other hand, the victim’s family called Brantley a sick individual monster whose life sentence is nothing compared to the pain of their loss.

“Arnold had been a scholarship softball player at the University of Michigan-Dearborn and Morgan State in Baltimore before that. Most recently, she was taking courses through Wayne County Community College District,” said Arnold’s mother, Diane, reported The Detroit News.
