A Canadian man fatally stabbed his brother twice in the chest in an unprovoked attack. Now, he will spend almost two decades behind bars.
Last week, Ontario Court Justice Danial Newton sentenced Jesse Allen, 40, to life in prison with the possibility of parole for the stabbing death of his 18-year-old brother, Wayne Allen. After a six-day trial, Jesse was found guilty and convicted by a jury of second-degree murder.
On Jan. 30, 2021, officers responded to a residential property on Flicker Avenue in Manitouwadge after reports of a stabbing incident. Upon arrival, they found Wayne with life-threatening injuries before he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds.
According to prosecutors, the defendant had gone to the home shared by his father, Glen Allen, and Wayne. While Glen and Jesse sat at the kitchen table smoking marijuana, Wayne was sitting on the couch in the living room. Suddenly, the defendant got up and walked to his brother on the couch and stabbed him twice in the chest while repeatedly telling his dad he wanted his house back and his brother was not dead.
Jesse was immidiately arrested at the scene.
“How do you like that dad, two birds with one stone. I want my house back. Wayne’s not dead, Wayne’s not dead,” said Jesse, reported SNnewswatch.com.
An autopsy report established the victim had been stabbed through his heart and lungs.
During the trial, Jesse’s defense team argued the defendant had no intention of killing his brother. Hence, he should have been sentenced to a lesser charge of manslaughter. The jury didn’t buy it!
Jesse will be eligible for parole after serving a minimum of 15 years in prison.
