An Alabama man killed a kind woman who gave him and his girlfriend a ride. Now, he will never walk free again.
Recently, 23rd Judicial Circuit Judge Donna Pate handed X’Zavier Kamontae Scott, 21, a life term in prison without the possibility of parole for the stabbing death of Tiffany Kelley, a.k.a Good Samaritan, 29. Scott was found guilty and convicted of capital murder by a Madison County jury.
On Sept. 22, 2018, Kelley stopped at a store in South Huntsville, where Scott and his 16-year-old girlfriend, Domanek Jackson, approached her to request a ride. Kelley obliged! Then, she decided to pick up some items at her residence first before driving the couple to their designated destination. According to prosecutors, as Kelley was about to turn into the road leading to her trailer, Scott stabbed her in the neck repeatedly before dumping her body and throwing her out of the car.
Next, the couple stole the car and drove to Clarke County, where authorities arrested the duo and extradited them to face capital murder charges in Madison County. Initially, Scott’s first trial ended in a mistrial due to an investigator who introduced a statement on the stand regarding the defendant’s violent history against his girlfriend. The statement was barred and inadmissible as part of a pretrial agreement, hence, Scott’s defense lawyer argued for a mistrial, and the judge granted the motion.
However, during Jackson’s trial, Scott testified he was the sole perpetrator for stabbing Kelley and, in a letter to the judge, apologizing for the fatal incident, admitted being the killer and accepted full responsibility. The defendant blamed his behavior on his bout with depression and being homeless.
Kelley’s family described her as a selfless individual who would help anyone in need and was a mom of twin 8-year-old boys.
“She was the glue that held our family together, always had a smile on her face. Her being so kindhearted is what got her in trouble, ultimately, because she was just trying to help somebody, that’s just who she was,” said Kelley’s sister Ashley Beichler, reported News 19.
Jackson, who is now 20, was not found guilty of capital murder but convicted of robbery. Hence, she was ultimately sentenced to life in prison.
