A Nevada woman doused sheriff deputies with fentanyl during her arrest. Now, she will spend at least two decades behind bars.

Recently, Douglas County District Judge Tom Gregory sentenced Jessica Thomas to life in prison with the possibility of parole for narcotics exposure to officers of the Douglas County Sherriff Department. Thomas pleaded guilty to 13 felony counts related to drug trafficking.

According to KOLO News Now, on Oct. 20, 2022, officers arrested Thomas and her co-defendant, Regina Rojas, during a drug sting operation at Stateline. Upon breaching the Chevrolet sedan the duo was driving, authorities found a sealed container. After opening it, they had to call in medics to treat officers after they were contaminated with toxic levels of drugs, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, and heroin. Video footage showed officers reacting to the drugs while one of the officers was given five doses of Narcan to revive him.

"As we opened that container, it pressurized just like on a plane and pushed some of the substance out," said Douglas County sheriff Dan Coverley, reported News 4.

In addition, authorities had to decontaminate the jail where the women were placed in custody.

Initially, Thomas had denied ever selling narcotics with Rojas but had a change of mind one week before her trial.

Rojas was sentenced to 32.5 years in prison with parole after 12 years due to less participation in the charges against the defendant. On the other hand, Thomas is eligible for parole after serving 19 years.
